Thirtieth Araucanía Games to Host Nearly 2,300 Athletes from Argentina and Chile

Nearly 2,300 athletes from Argentina and Chile will compete in seven disciplines. The province of Río Negro organizes the thirtieth edition of this traditional youth competition.

With the delegations from Patagonia and the southern regions of Chile already installed in the respective competition centers, the thirtieth Araucanía Games will take action starting this Monday in the province of Río Negro, organizer this year of the binational competition. Neuquén capital and Viedma-Carmen de Patagones will be sub-venues of the contest.

Nearly 2,300 athletes will be part of this competition reserved for the youth category who will compete in seven disciplines. At 8 p.m. the opening ceremony will be held simultaneously at all venues, with its epicenter at the Pedro Estremador Gymnasium in Bariloche.

That town will host women’s soccer, volleyball in both branches and judo. While the Viedma and Patagones Region will host basketball and cycling; Choele Choel to swimming; Cipolletti will host men’s soccer and Neuquén will host athletics, since Río Negro does not have an approved synthetic track.

The Argentine provinces of La Pampa, Neuquén, Chubut, Santa Cruz, Tierra del Fuego and Río Negro will be part of the tournament; and the Chilean regions of Bio Bio, Los Lagos, Araucanía, Los Ríos, Ñuble, Aysen and Magallanes.

Neuquén escorted Río Negro in the last edition that was held in Puerto Montt and was champion in women’s soccer.

The debut will be on Tuesday against Magallanes on the Cruz del Sur court in Bariloche. The rest of the team sports teams that are presented in this city will have action starting this Monday. Women’s volleyball will face Aysen, starting at 3 p.m. in Gym No. 1. The men will cross paths with Los Ríos, from 10 a.m., at Gymnasium No. 3 and in the afternoon, at the UNCo Gymnasium, with La Pampa, at 5 p.m.

In basketball, which is based in the Viedma-Patagones region, the Neuquén women’s team will face Magallanes starting at 9 at the Atenas Club, while two hours later the men will play against La Pampa.

Men’s soccer will also have its premiere this Monday, but on the La Amistad field, in Cipolletti, facing Magallanes from 3:00 p.m.

Individual sports such as swimming, cycling and athletics will be awarding the first medals, while judo will compete from Tuesday.
