The Untold Story of Kyle Korver: From Photocopier Trade to NBA Legend

Kyle Korver has its place as one of the best triple jumpers of all times in the NBA. The guard played 17 seasons and made 2,450 effective shots from the perimeter, the fifth all-time record, behind Stephen Curry (3,463 and counting), Ray Allen (2,973), James Harden (2,770 and counting) and Reggie Miller (2,560 ).

But the New Jersey Nets (today Brooklyn Nets) never imagined the type of talent they had recruited in the 2003 Draft. Korver was chosen with the 51st pick for the team that had just lost the last two editions of The Finals, with a team with a roster with stars like Jason Kidd and Richard Jefferson.

But The Nets decided to sell Kyle that same night to the Philadelphia 76ers, with whom he spent four years and finished with good averages of 12.4 points, 3.8 rebounds, 5.5 three-pointers attempted and 41.6 percent shooting from the field. With the money, New Jersey covered the expenses of the Summer League and also They used part of the money to buy a photocopier. Yes, the Nets sent the fifth best three-point shooter in history for a photocopier.

“(I was) the 51st pick for the New Jersey Nets; Shortly after I found out that I had been traded to Philadelphia. I’m not sure if trespass is the right word. They sold me for an undisclosed amount of money. I later found out that (the Nets) used that money to pay the fee for their summer league team and, with the leftover money, they bought a photocopier,” Korver recounted at Creighton University, his alma mater, in May. of 2019. “A few years ago the machine broke. Meanwhile, I keep playing.” he added.

Years later, the Nets management admitted their mistake. “We give away a good player for a summer league. It was one of those things we had to do. At least, that’s how I rationalized it,” Rod Thorn, then the team’s general manager, told him in an interview with the Grantland sports blog in 2014.
