Basketball: Victor Wembanyama returns to Nanterre for a championship match against Blois

This is an appearance in the stands that is getting people talking. This Tuesday evening, the Maurice-Thorez sports center received a visit from an “old hand” aged only 20 years old. And not just any one. Victor Wembanyama, who trained in the white and green jersey of Nanterre 92, attended the meeting between his former team and that of Blois. With a white hoodie on his shoulders, he greeted many people before taking his place in the stands.

Last in the regular season in the Western Conference and therefore deprived of the playoffs, “Wemby” ended its first NBA season on April 13 with a victory against champion Denver. A way to end this season on a good note before being named among the three rookies of the year in the North American championship as well as for the trophy for best defender of the season alongside his compatriot Rudy Gobert.

Back in France for three weeks, Victor Wembanyama went to the Accor Arena this weekend to support his little brother Oscar in the final of the U17 French Cup with Asvel. Something to recharge your batteries before your next deadline: the Paris Olympic Games with the French team.

Vincent Collet’s list will be revealed on May 16 before a two-week training course at Insep with the Blues and several preparation matches. The Blues’ first match at the Games will be played on July 23 in Lille against the winner of an Olympic qualifying tournament.

His presence on Tuesday will not have changed anything: Victor Wembanyama attended the defeat of Nanterre, fifth in the championship, against the relegated Blois (103-106).
