The Unseen Fate of Novak Djokovic at the 2023 ATP Finals in Turin

Novak Djokovic´ Fate at the ATP Finals in Turin 2023 lies in the hands of Jannik Sensesr. Which doesn’t mean that the world number one will watch today’s match against Holger Rune (live on Sky and in our ticker from 9 p.m.) live or on TV.

Novak Djokovic will spend Thursday evening with his children

Novak Djokovic came into the interview room in the catacombs of the Pala Alpitour with a stuffy nose; even on the court, the world number one had to repeatedly reach for his handkerchief. This did little to detract from Djokovic’s performance, after all it was his second victory at the ATP Finals. However, one with a flaw: Losing the second set means that Jannik Sinner, who has already qualified for the semi-finals, has to win against Holger Rune so that Djokovic can also reach the semi-finals.

But what can you say? Novak Djokovic gave the impression in the press conference that all in all he was pretty much on par. Because one thing is important: his children came to Turin this Thursday and quality time with the family is coming up. You have a few games with you, maybe you can go to the pool again. In other words: Novak Djokovic is unlikely to be sitting in front of the TV when his fate at the 2023 ATP Finals is decided.

Djokovic on Nadal: “He is a great warrior”

Much more important, and of course this is only an interpretation of what was said, will be next week: “I want to win the Davis Cup with Serbia.” As is well known, the game will be played in Málaga, Serbia will meet Great Britain in the quarter-finals. And Novak Djokovic may face Andy Murray in the top singles, depending on how the British injury situation develops.

Djokovic also had a few thoughts left on the subject of old rivals like Andy Murray. Namely Rafael Nadal, who will return to the ATP tour at an as yet undisclosed date in 2024. “I think it would be nice for the sport if there was another game between me and Nadal. In terms of number of matches, it is the biggest rivalry this sport has ever seen. Hopefully it will happen. He is a great warrior.”
