AGUASCALIENTES._ Cossalteco Rafael Aguilar Godínez and culiacanense Óscar Daniel Agüelles López won first and second places in their respective categories, in the national Calaveras 2023 archery tournament held at the Centeo de Convenciones de Aguascalientes.

Both were the most notable of the Sinaloan delegation that traveled with around twenty archers, from the Ave Fénix and 10X Racquet Club clubs, as well as the Leto de Cosalá club.

The competition, considered the largest private tournament in the country, distributed 10 thousand dollars in prizes and brought together 390 competitors from 25 states in the country, including representatives or national teams, such as Juan René Serrano, Ernesto Boarman, Ana Paula Vázquez and the Paralympic Samuel Molina.

Rafael Aguilar Godínez was crowned in the Mixed Children’s category of the recurve bow modality, in a final that began with the first set for Ana Dyami Gómez Martínez, from Baja California, by a score of 28-27.

However, the Cossaltecan adjusted his technique and hit three perfect shots to win the second set 30-26 and tie the final at 2-2.

Then he made two shots of 10 and a 9, to win the third set 29-27 and close with another perfect score, 30-26, for the final 6-2.

Aguilar Godínez has been trained by César Jacobo González for almost two years and has already attended two National Olympics.

He was one of the four Cosalá archers who made the trip.

“I think the most difficult thing was the endurance because I got tired, but the training loads were very heavy and that helped me,” he said after receiving his award.

He also said that he was psyched to reach the finals and fight for the prize.

On the other hand, Argüelles López, 34 years old, competed in the final of the Bare Bow modality, without accessories such as sights or stabilizers, in the mixed branch.

The final was played against Salvador Martínez, from Tamaulipas, by a score of 113 against 96 points after five rounds.

This is Óscar Daniel’s second participation in this competition; In 2022 he took fourth place.

“The difference was another year of training. The feeling of being in the competition was very different,” he noted.

“There were more competitors and the most difficult thing, as always, is concentration, the pressure generated by the other competitors.”

This is the third competition at this level that Óscar Daniel attends, after in 2021 he arrived at the National Outdoors 2021, and although as an individual he was eliminated in the first round outside, in pairs he won the silver medal.

From the 10X Archery School club, Carlos San Sánchez took third place in the amateur compound bow modality of the Men’s Open category.

In the same competition, María Julia Agramón, Melissa Brito and Keilany Urquídez were left out in the first round.

Oliver Sanz Cota and Jorge Murillo were eliminated in the 16th. final, after obtaining important victories in the 32, while Francisco Gómez was left out in the first eliminatory round.
