Is another world star coming to Köpenick after Leonardo Bonucci? The Spaniard Raúl is said to be a candidate for the coaching position at Union Berlin. However, the interest in a former Bundesliga coach is more concrete.
It should be a new beginning. 1. FC Union Berlin wants to finally win again in the first game after the end of Urs Fischer’s era. The bottom team from Köpenick will welcome FC Augsburg on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. in the An der Alten Försterei stadium. Union has not won 14 competitive games since August and suffered 13 defeats. The last nine games in the league have been lost. Sheraldo Becker, Leonardo Bonucci and Danilho Doekhi are out injured for the Berlin team, Rani Khedira is suspended. According to a report in the “Bild” newspaper, former world-class footballer Raúl will also be part of the extended group of candidates in the capital city’s search for a coach. According to information from the paper, a more concrete lead should lead to ex-Hoffenheim coach Alfred Schreuder, as the newspaper reported on Friday. Oliver Glasner, coach of Eintracht Frankfurt until the summer, is also still a candidate for the bottom of the table. Against Augsburg, the interim coaching team of Marco Grote and Marie-Louise Eta, the first woman in the men’s Bundesliga, will sit on the Köpenick bench.

Raúl knows the Bundesliga from his time as a player. From 2010 to 2012 he played for Schalke 04. He is also said to have been a coaching candidate for the Royal Blues at the beginning of October, but declined according to a report in “Sport Bild”. The 46-year-old is currently coaching Real Madrid’s second team.
