The San Martino Fair: A Culinary and Cultural Extravaganza

The San Martino Fair is ready to go: starting this evening (Thursday 9 November) with the preview it will be possible to experience the atmosphere of the biggest event of the Santarcangiolese autumn, which will come into full swing tomorrow (Friday 10) and then continue Saturday 11th and ending on Sunday 12th November.

Already from this evening, over one hundred points dedicated to the world of food will be active, including taverns, food trucks, and street food, street vendors, breweries and wineries: the proposals will range from the traditional local products of Casa Romagna in Piazza Ganganelli to the typical products of other Italian regions of the Casa dell’Autunno in Piazza Marini, from the “luverie” of Via Saffi to the menus of international cuisines in the food trucks behind the Town Hall, to to which are added the refreshment points distributed between Piazzas Ganganelli and Marconi (including the “Al castagni di Bec” stand of Caritas volunteers), Via De Bosis and Faini, Piazzetta del Lavatoio and Piazzale Francolini.

The Romagna piadina, in particular, will be the protagonist as per tradition of the two Pro Loco initiatives on Sunday 12 November in Piazza Ganganelli: the 24th Palio della piada – competition reserved for amateur chefs, starting from 2 pm – and La Pida di Bècch, prize for the best piada produced by taverns and piadina shops in Santarcangelo, from 5 pm.

In any case, there will be no shortage of cultural events linked to tradition in the events space in Piazza Ganganelli. To inaugurate the initiatives, already this evening (Thursday 9) at 9 pm, the musical evening “Buskers in Fiera”, with Alex Magnani, Martin Navello and Paolo Sgallini. For the little ones, tomorrow (Friday 10th) at 4pm the puppet comedy “Nonna Volpe” by the Vladimiro Strinati company is scheduled, while in the evening (9pm) the appointment with dialect poetry for the Christmas Eve vigil is renewed of San Martino.

Under traditions, obviously, the appeal could not be missed the 54th Storytellers Festival – which will take place on Saturday 11 November at 10am and 2.30pm – while the dialect returns as the protagonist of the guided tours of the caves in Romagna dialect “Sgrane’ è temp”, scheduled at 3pm and 4.30pm (departure from the Iat headquarters in via Battisti 5, reservations required on 0541/624270). Among the initiatives linked to tradition there are also two events at the Sferisterio: the tambourine match organized by the Lorenzo Amati sports association (Saturday 11 November at 3pm) and the archery tests organized by the Draconis – Mons Jovis Company (Sunday November 12th from 9.30am to 5pm).

The program of initiatives linked to the Fair is completed with the exhibition “Sancisi Isaia and sons. Exporters of Romagna”, which can be visited at the Musas (Blacksmiths’ Hall) during the three days of the Fair from 3.30pm to 7pm and then until 3 December during the museum’s opening hours. The exhibition curated by Renzo Sancisi – which will be inaugurated on Friday 10 November at 4.30 pm – retraces the half century of Santarcangiolese winemaking activity through awards and certificates, memorabilia and curiosities.

In addition to the hundred or so parking spaces reserved for refreshment points, there are just as many assigned to commerce: from the sample shop in the streets of the center to the agricultural shop in Piazzale Francolini, from the artisans in via Battisti and under the portico of the Town Hall to the creatives of “Fattamano a Sammartino” (porticos of via Garibaldi), up to the stalls of the merchants of the natural shopping centre. In fact, the simplified method already tested in San Michele has also been adopted for the Fiera dei Becchi, which allows the shops and businesses of the village to display their goods directly on public land, in front of their shop.

Finally, on the entertainment front, in addition to the amusement park already active in Piazzale Campana until Sunday 12th, the “San Martino after game” event is scheduled for Saturday 11th November from 11.30pm at the Odeon Club, organized by Sintonica . All information on the Fair – from details on the initiatives to directions relating to traffic – is published on the website www.santarcangelofiere.it/.
