The NBA’s New In-Season Tournament: A Closer Look at the Format and Teams

This Friday, November 3, the new NBA tournament begins, the In-Season Tournament. In a season with several new features, one of them is incorporating – with a more extensive format – the classic European basketball cups.

What teams will play in the tournament?

The 30 teams in the league will compete in the In-Season Tournament. They are divided into 6 groups of 5 teams drawn based on the results of the previous season. Each team will play once against each rival, twice at home and twice as a visitor.

How will it develop?

The group stage matches will be played every Tuesday and Friday from November 3 to 28, with the exception of the 7th, which is Election Day in the United States and there will be no matches.

The leader of each group will advance to the quarterfinals and the remaining two spots will be reserved for the best runner-up from each conference. This round will be played on December 4 and 5 in one match and on the court of the highest ranked team.

The semifinals and final will be played in a Final Four at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas from December 7 to 9.

Yes, except the final. The teams that do not advance to the playoffs will play two regular season games on December 6 and 8.
