The cyclist Josu Etxeberria, from Caja Rural, hospitalized after an accident

MADRID, 16 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The cyclist Josu Etxeberria, from the Spanish team Caja Rural-Seguros RGA, has been run over while training in the Navarrese town of Iza and is hospitalized with several injuries but conscious and with mobility in his extremities.

“Josu Etxeberria suffered an accident training this Wednesday. The Navarrese has multiple injuries and is in the ICU of the Navarra Hospital,” announced the Navarrese team of the second professional category UCI ProTeams.

Furthermore, they assure that “within the severity” of what happened, when he was hit by a car, he is “conscious” and has mobility in his legs. “A lot of encouragement and a speedy recovery,” his team wished him.

Etxeberria, a 23-year-old native of Iturmendi, will face his fifth season in the albiverde team in 2024, where he is gaining weight in the mountain stages despite the fact that an injury in the summer of 2022 kept him in dry dock for several months when he fractured several vertebrae.

Now, the young climber will have to face a new long recovery before being able to return to the team, with which in 2023 he managed to carry out his best season despite still having zero professional victories.
