The 2023 Araucanía Binational Games: A Look at the History, Participants, and Debut

Some left earlier. They did it last Thursday. The thing is that these were going to make a technical stopover in the northern part of our province. In Caleta Olivia and surroundings more precisely. With the clear objective of bringing the teams together for the last time, for the final rehearsals before embarking on the trip to the final destination of Río Negro. Also Neuquén, because some disciplines will be concentrated in the capital of that province. Yesterday the last buses left with the missing part of the delegation. The countdown, then, has already begun. There are hours left for the official debut of the Santacruceños. Also of the rest that will be the protagonist of this, the 2023 edition of the Binational Games of Araucanía.

Starting tomorrow and throughout the week this competition will be held.

The adrenaline is already felt. There is anxiety and also desire among our athletes. Many. To compete and live up to it. They prepared for that. Surely, then, they will be able to meet your expectations. Which are, neither more nor less, than everyone’s.

A little history

The Araucanía Binational Games are a set of sports competitions that bring together young people from the Patagonian regions of Chile and the Patagonian provinces of Argentina.

Motivated by the need to promote sports and recreation and as a consequence produce integration between Chile and Argentina, the members of the Regional Coordination of the IX Region of the neighboring country and their peers from the Undersecretariat of Sports of the province of Neuquén , began with the first contacts. These were made seeking to lay the foundations for participation in what at that time became known as the Binational Conferences and the exchange of Sports Delegations. All this, aimed at achieving the previously stated objectives. In August 1991, in CABA, the foreign ministers of Argentina and Chile signed a Memorandum of Understanding on physical integration and border facilitation with the spirit of materializing the desires to make the principles of collaboration and integration between both nations a reality.

A year later, in Neuquén, representatives of the sports institutions of both countries met. Then the Minutes of Agreement were signed between the two nations, with the commitment to carry out reciprocal actions in matters of Sports and Recreation. Among other things, the Araucanía Games also aimed to strengthen and strengthen ties of union and friendship between the regions and provinces of southern Chile and Argentina. Something that has been fulfilled up to this point and in spades.

At the end of 92, this competition was already a reality. The first edition took place in the Araucanía region, in Chile.
