But THAT is exactly what will happen on the ninth matchday of the Easycredit Basketball Bundesliga.

On November 25th, the Braunschweiger Löwen will play at the Bamberg Baskets. And the host is planning the “Teddy Bear Toss” for that day.
After Bamberg’s first basket success, the game should be stopped briefly so that the fans can throw stuffed animals onto the field.
SPORT BILD learned: The Basketball Bundesliga has given Bamberg approval for this campaign.
The application said: “As in previous years, we are collecting new and well-preserved cuddly toys for a good cause and donating them afterwards.” They are intended to benefit charitable organizations.

The host also wants to ensure that the game is not interrupted for too long: “We have a lot of helpers here, so it can be collected quickly.”
The campaign is unique in the BBL. It is the third “Teddy Bear Toss” for Bamberg. In January 2015, more than 3,000 stuffed animals flew onto the floor against FC Bayern Basketball.
And last year there were around 2,000 that fans threw onto the field during the game against Syntainics MBC.
At the time, the animals were intended as a donation to the Bamberg Tafel – but because of the number of teddies, other organizations were subsequently given gifts.
This year, charitable organizations can contact the association if they are interested in the cuddly toys.

The tradition of teddy bear throwing comes from North American ice hockey. Apparently it started in the Canadian town of Kitchener.
The world record for the most teddies thrown is held by fans of the Calgary Hitmen (Western Hockey League). During a game in 2015, they hurled 28,815 plush toys towards the ice.
