“Striker Roberts Uldrikis Scores First Goal of the Season with Headband”, Trainer Henk de Jong Praises Superstition

With his goal at the end of the first half, striker Roberts Uldrikis put the final score against MVV Maastricht (4-1) on the scoreboard. It is his first goal of the season and, he thinks, not his last. As long as he keeps his headband in, says trainer Henk de Jong.

In the first half of the cup match, MVV completely lost after Sekou Sylla’s 1-1. Milan Smit scored, a beautiful long shot from Michael Breij fell in and Uldrikis also scored for the first time this season. A corner that suddenly landed on Uldrikis’ upper body completed Cambuur’s first half.

It was only his first goal of the season. He scored a beautiful goal during training on Wednesday. When the trainer complimented him on this, he responded grimly: “It would be nice if it also happened in a match.”

His goal was by no means as nice as it was in training. “I get that ball on my body, between my stomach and my hip or something,” Uldrikis grins. “But I was in the right place at the right time.”

With the headband are the goals back?

Superstitious people already said it: his headband is back, so the goals will come too. “Several people have already said that to me,” laughs the tall Latvian. “I’m a bit superstitious, but I don’t know about my hair. It almost looks like it.”

Trainer Henk de Jong is sure: “That headband will never come off!” Uldrikis knows that there is nothing else to do: “I really can’t cut my hair anymore.”
