Sonora’s Delegation to the 2023 Parapan American Games in Santiago de Chile

Sonora will have six representatives in the seventh edition of the Parapan American Gamesto be celebrated from November 17 to 26 in Santiago de Chile.

Five of them will do so in athletics: Leticia Ochoa, Édgar Fuentes and Jennifer Villalobosthe three in javelin throw and in the Wheelchair and Amputee category; in addition to the long jumper David Heredia (Cerebral Palsy) and the sprinter (100, 200 and 400 meters) Yasser Guzmán (Blind and Visually Impaired). The other Sonoran will be Dubiier Paredes, who will participate in boccia.

Ochoa Delgado (classification F53) and Fuentes Yánez (F54)both with experience in Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Gameslead the Sonoran delegation, since They will arrive in Santiago 2023 as runners-up of the continental event (both won silver in Lima 2019).

Paredes Moroyoqui will enter the search for medals first, since the boccia will begin on November 19and two days later, on the 21st, athletics will begin taking into account that both disciplines will conclude on the 25th.

Mexico will present 182 parathletes in 14 disciplines: Boccia, soccer (for the blind and visually impaired), goalball, judo, athletics, badminton, cycling, swimming, taekwondo, powerlifting, wheelchair tennis, archery, table tennis and shooting sports, with the aim of at least equaling the third place achieved four years ago in the Peruvian capital (55 gold, 58 silver and 45 bronze, for a total of 158).

Globally, 1,943 adapted athletes from 33 countries will compete, spread across 17 sports.; the current champion is USA and the runner-up Brazilfollowed by the Aztec team, according to the results of the medal table from the previous edition held in Peru.
