Aleksander Aamodt Kilde got along best with the “Birds of Prey” the first time he tried it. The Norwegian was the fastest on Tuesday in Beaver Creek in the first training for the two Ski World Cup downhill runs on Friday and Saturday (6.45 p.m. CET, live on ORF1). The best Austrian was Daniel Hemetsberger, 14th (+1.29 seconds).

Overall downhill World Cup winner Kilde, who won the last four races (two downhill, two super-G) on the legendary course in Colorado, was 0.23 seconds ahead of Cyprien Sarrazin (FRA) and 0.56 on the 2,600 m long slope in front of the German Andreas Sander.
Marco Schwarz was the second fastest ÖSV runner in 18th place (+1.73 seconds), followed by Stefan Babinsky in 21st (+1.82) and Christian Walder in 24th (+1.92). Vincent Kriechmayr was 29th, 2.08 seconds behind. The other Austrians Otmar Striedinger (+2.54), Daniel Danklmaier (+2.58), Raphael Haaser (+2.99), Julian Schütter (+3.02), Johannes Strolz (+3.21), Christoph Krenn (+3.71) and Andreas Ploier (+4.31) landed beyond 40.

The first speed competitions of this season will take place in Colorado with the two downhill runs and the Super-G on Sunday (6.45 p.m. CET, live on ORF1), after the two downhill runs in Zermatt/Cervinia were canceled. Austria’s downhill skiers have been without a win in the US winter sports resort since 2007 (Michael Walchhofer).
