Shane Priest Appointed as Manager for Cometz: A New Era for the Messins

The Cometz have announced the appointment of Shane Priest as manager. A big new for the Messins after fourteen years spent under the leadership of Pierre Cézard.

The news was in the cards, and was finally made official by the Cometz, who will still play in D1 Baseball next season. After exploring several avenues, Metz management decided to promote Shane Priest to the position of manager. Pierre Cézard’s replacement will also serve as a “pitching coach” for the D1 and University MBA teams.

If he will continue to play in orange and white, Shane Priest will mainly have a role of “Closer”. With extensive experience at the highest level, the new manager will be able to handle a few rounds in key situations at the end of the match. A situation he already experienced during the D1/D2 play-off weekend in Béziers last October.

Contacted by us, David Ten Eyck, the president of Cometz, expressed his satisfaction in this regard. “It seems clear that Shane is in exactly the mindset we want. It was about making sure everyone was in a role that suited them. This is in order to create a real dynamic around him in his staff”he explained.

In his first year as manager, Shane Priest will have a lot to do. After passing the play-off test this season, the challenge will above all be to ensure a quieter end to the season than during the previous year.

“Everyone thinks we will finish at the bottom of the table. But it is not with the wave of a magic wand that we will thwart this prognosis. You’re going to have to work hard. Every day. […] You have to have the discipline to succeed. It’s like in all areas of life. Those who work hard to become the best eventually get rewarded. That will be my message to the team this offseason.”
