Ofner, currently number 44 in the ATP rankings, appeared wide awake from the start against the Frenchman, who was 19 positions higher in the world rankings. Austria’s number one took Mannarino’s service to take a 3-1 lead, but conceded the rebreak three games later. Both players then served their serves and the decision was made in a tiebreak. The 27-year-old Styrian was already 6:3 ahead, but only closed the bag on the fifth attempt and took the first set after 1:09 minutes.

Ofner also got off to a better start in the second round. The Styrian managed a break to make it 2-1 and then confirmed it after fending off two break points thanks to a strong fighting performance. However, Ofner had to continue to work hard on his own serve, he fended off another break point at 4:3, but Mannarino restored the tie at the second attempt. The 35-year-old Frenchman was now on the move, served his next service with a bit of a stomach ache and tied the set with another break.

Turbulent third movement

Mannarino carried the momentum into the third set, in which he took the first serve from the Austrian and quickly took a 2-0 lead. However, a preliminary decision was not made. Ofer fought back and immediately shortened the score to 1:2 with a rebreak, only to give up his own service immediately afterwards.

Austria’s number one once again had his back to the wall and was able to fend off a break point at 1:4, but then missed the chance to tie again when Mannarino served. After 2:40 hours, the Frenchman served to win the match after fending off two more break points. For Ofner it was the 91st and final game of the season, which gave him his best year as a professional.

In the head-to-head with Ofner, Mannarino made it 2-0 with the win. The 35-year-old Frenchman also won his only duel so far in the semi-finals at the 250cc tournament in Astana at the end of September and went on to win the tournament .
