Rugby: sanction reduced to one month suspension for Jegou (La Rochelle), positive for cocaine

Oscar Jegou is officially suspended for one month by the French Anti-Doping Agency (AFLD). The third row from La Rochelle accepts his sanction and is already authorized to play again in competition. Jegou, 20, tested positive for cocaine during the first day of Top 14.

The young man, who started with Stade Rochelais during the defeat at Montpellier on August 20 (26-15), remained on the playing area for almost an hour before being replaced. The under-20 world champion invoked a “youthful mistake” before the AFLD on October 16. Since this date, the Rochelais has been suspended as a precautionary measure.

For this type of violation of the anti-doping code, the standard sanction is three months of suspension. But in this case, Jegou, as soon as he was informed of his positive test, requested a doctor in order to comply with appropriate treatment. He also volunteered to raise awareness for the benefit of the Federation (FFR).

Stade Rochelais, which says it takes cocaine use among players very seriously, decided not to part with Jegou and to support its player. As the procedure currently stands, Jegou is already authorized to play again. As of November 8, the La Rochelle forward was notified of a provisional lifting of his suspension, pending the official decision.
