In their first participation in the Europe Cup, the Rostock Seawolves can still hope to advance after the group phase. With the win against Larnaka, the BBL team also achieved revenge.

Rostock (dpa/mv). In the Fiba Europe Cup, the Rostock Seawolves kept their chance of surviving the group phase. On Wednesday evening, the Bundesliga basketball team defeated AEK Larnaka from Cyprus with 86:73 (47:38). After four of six games in Group C, the team now has two wins and two defeats. With their second success in the city hall in this competition, the Rostock team also celebrated successful revenge for the 76:78 in the first meeting with Larnaka. The Seawolves’ best thrower was Derrick Alston, who scored 17 points.

In the first quarter, Rostock needed a few minutes to get into their game. They then gained a 22:17 lead, but lost their concentration again. The guests managed an 8-0 series within 70 seconds. However, Wes Clark sank a three-pointer for the hosts at the final siren and equalized after the first quarter. In the second half, Rostock were the dominant team until the break.

With a 15-1 run in the first four minutes of the third quarter, head coach Christian Held’s team paved the way to victory. In the final period, the guests were only able to reduce the gap by a few points, but they didn’t put the Seawolves in any more trouble.
