Ex-club coach Robert Klauß (38/2020 to 2022) will be the new coach of Rapid Vienna as the successor to the dismissed Zoran Barišić (53), signing a contract in the Austrian capital until 2026. This decision was already made on Sunday after Favorite Enrico Maaßen (39/most recently Augsburg) had canceled. On Monday afternoon, Vienna made Klauss’ commitment official.

The FCN does not receive a transfer fee. The ex-Leipzig Co terminated his contract in Nuremberg, which runs until 2024, in June of this year and received severance pay for it.

For Klauß, it is the first coaching job since he was kicked out of the club in October 2022. He was repeatedly considered a candidate (including Austria Vienna, Rostock, Braunschweig), but he never got hired. Either the interested club didn’t trust Klauß with the job in the end or the Brandenburg native turned it down.
Curious: At Rapid, Klauß will be working with his former dream player Guido Burgstaller (34) in the future! He wanted to bring the striker to Nuremberg in the summer of 2022. Ultimately, the transfer failed due to the veto of Burgstaller’s former club St. Pauli. The attacker moved to Vienna instead.
Klauß and Burgstaller finally meet there, a year and a half late.
