Right-wing extremism in football: Oberliga club Eintracht Gladau is returning to play for the time being

Football district league team DSG Eintracht Gladau is allowed to take part in games again for the time being despite allegations of right-wing extremism. The association court of the regional association granted an urgent application from the club under strict conditions, like the Saxony-Anhalt Football Association (FSA) announced.

According to the announcement, Eintracht Gladau has committed itself to a 16-point catalog of requirements. The club will therefore be temporarily allowed to return to KFV Jerichower Land games. One of the requirements is that the club must play its home games for the first and second men’s teams behind closed doors. The preliminary orders of the association court apply until the imminent final decision on exclusion from the association, as it was said.

The DSG was excluded from the FSA on November 8th due to gross violations of the association’s statutes and regulations. Members of the association had violated the values of the FSA, such as party-political neutrality or the “commitment of its members, bodies and institutions to the free-democratic basic order”. The president of the FSA, Saxony-Anhalt’s former CDU interior minister Holger Stahlknecht, said: “The Saxony-Anhalt Football Association is sending a clear signal against right-wing extremism.” Nothing was disclosed about the specific allegations.

As a result of the exclusion, the club also lost its right to play. The association’s statutes prohibit, among other things, discrimination of any form.
