Rangers Secure World Series Championship with Late-Inning Surge

PHOENIX – Choosing how, when and where to win is a privilege in the World Series. The Rangers chose the top of the seventh and ninth innings as the precise moment to take that step. They had the pinpoint skill to put on the big team suit that led them to win the championship at Chase Field.

The symptoms had been repeated during the last games. The D-backs maintained their offensive rhythm, two hits and a stolen base before the fifth inning was the preamble to a close game. On the Rangers’ side, Nathan Eovaldi maintained control, but without getting unhinged in the throws.

In rhythm, fast and precise Zac Gallen pitched for six innings in which he allowed three hits, one run and only one walk. He was replaced by Kevin Ginkel at the top of the seventh episode.

The score was broken in the seventh inning when Corey Seager grounded to left field and Mitch Garver added a single to center field so Seager scored and Evan Carter reached third base. It was time to take center stage.

Josh Sborz and Aroldis Chapman came to the mound to reinforce the work of Nathan Eovaldi.

In the eighth inning, the at-bats of Lourdes Gurriel Jr. and Tommy Pham failed against Josh Sborz. Alex Thomas singled up the middle to reach first base. He tried but did not achieve his goal.

The game was decided in the ninth inning. A rain of hits silenced Chase Field and the pitches of closer Paul Sewald. Heim singled to center field, Jung scored and Lowe scored, Heim reached third base.

The fifth run came courtesy of Semien who hit a home run to left-center field, Heim also scored.

When you stop playing to win and play not to lose, problems arise. In baseball you don’t have those luxuries.
