With a flourish, Quindío closed its participation in the twenty-second Coffee Region National Games 2023 that ended on Saturday, November 25
The department achieved its second best participation in terms of gold medals by winning 8 gold medals, only surpassed by the 1988 national games when Armenia also hosted the competitions where athletes won 11 gold medals.
Quindío added 28 medals in total represented by 8 gold medals, 7 silver and 13 bronze, placing itself in box number 12 in the medal table that once again established Valle del Cauca as champion of the National Games.
The last two medals were GOLD in women’s indoor soccer, where the girls won the final against Boyacá in Manizales, and in athletics with Gerard Giraldo who won a silver medal in the 3000 meter hurdles at the Armenia athletics stadium.
The director of Indeportes, Quindío Fernando Panesso highlighted the performance of the athletes in these Games and ratified the economic incentives, 15 million pesos for those who won gold, 7 million silver and 3 million pesos for the bronze medal winners.
Now the region is preparing for the Paranational Games that will officially open next Saturday, December 2 at the Centenario stadium in Armenia, but some competitions begin on November 29.
