«My family and I want to share with you what was found in me on November 2, because I have colorectal cancer, for which we are willing to fight, we are in positive thinking», declared Ortiz in a video broadcast through Instagram.

«It’s not easy, obviously. That can be said by many people who go through the same situation, but within the family we are all very positive and in some way, obviously, looking forward to what we can do along the way,” he added along with his wife, Sylvia Ríos.

Despite the diagnosis, the former basketball player seemed confident. “We already have a formed group of doctors, of professionals who are with us fighting the battle and will be contributing their grain of sand and knowledge, which we appreciate and are very grateful for,” he said in this regard.

«So we wanted to share this news with you; It is not pleasant news, but it is news that we have to face. And have the best possible attitude so that our entire environment remains in tune with our prayers, the prayers of all of you, for which we are very grateful,” commented Ortiz.

«Let them know that I am going to give my best, as I always did on the court., as I have always done in the previous difficult times I have had. And nothing, we just ask you to pray for us, for this server,” said the former player for CAI Zaragoza, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Festina Andorra and Unicaja Polti, among other teams.

“I wanted them to find out through us and not perhaps through other means that could speculate, or say or add things that do not have to come into the picture,” Ortiz warned, and then thanked the oncologists and gastroenterologists who have detected this disease. .

“Don’t be afraid to have a colonoscopy”

«I would like to call on all young people, let’s say 45 to 50 years old, not to be afraid to have a colonoscopy because it is very important. Cancer has no cure, but the cure is prevention itself and I think you should think about it,” he continued in the video.

«I thought it was something else. But basically when I have a colonoscopy and it turns out that I have colorectal cancer, I turn around and tell them: ‘I’m going to fight,'” Ortiz said about the moment of his diagnosis.

«We would like to thank you for your prayers, your good vibes and let them know it from us, that we are always very grateful. And with God ahead, let’s hope that everything will turn out well,” concluded the former Puerto Rican athlete.
