PSG-Newcastle (1-1): Gianluigi Donnarumma, a new ball that could have been expensive

A wall, a giant, an impassable rampart. Three weeks ago after a grandiose performance in Reims (3-0 victory on November 11), enhanced by eight saves, we wondered if Gianluigi Donnarumma was not going through the best period of his Parisian adventure since his arrival at summer 2021 from Milan. A few days earlier, faced with pressure from San Siro who awaited him with “Dollarumma”, these little green notes flocked with his image, he had avoided Paris from bowing to humiliating proportions (1-2, November 7).

At the end of these two meetings, we thought the debate on its status and its regularity was finally closed. Solid on his line and making clear progress in his footwork, the Italian seemed to get everyone in agreement. But in two small matches against Monaco (5-2, last Friday) and this Tuesday, November 28 against Newcastle, the Parisian goalkeeper saw his certainties, which some thought so solid, crumble.

He didn’t have the chance to make up for his mistake.

On Friday, it was first on a restart with the ball that his confidence crumbled despite significant saves throughout the match, particularly in front of Magassa and Minamino. This Tuesday, on the lawn of the Parc des Princes, it was on one of its strong points that the Transalpin clearly missed. We are playing the 24th minute when Livramento starts from his left side and reviews half of the PSG outfield players. Kolo Muani, Hakimi, Ruiz, Skriniar and Ugarte are too soft or too far from the Englishman trained at Chelsea, who has time to shift Almiron to the right in the area.

From there, the rest resembles the first goal of Gonçalo Ramos scored against ASM on Friday: a wrapped shot from the Paraguayan not very powerful pushed back without any dynamism in the feet of Alexander Isaak, who did not just push the ball to open the score from close range (1-0, 24th).

Shortly before the quarter of an hour of play, it was already in a similar position that the Swede could have hurt, but his attempt went over the top. And here again, Donnarumma had not put Hakimi in the best position, who had the ball taken by Almiron (12th).

That was all and it’s already a lot. Never called upon in the second act, “Donna” did not really have the opportunity to make up for her mistake which reminds us that when the altitude rises, the Transalpine can make big mistakes as was the case against Madrid two seasons ago in the round of 16 of the C1. Described as relaxed and calm even after complicated episodes such as the burglary he experienced last July, the Parisian goalkeeper will need a lot of serenity in the days to come.
