The project is still in its embryonic state. But already, in Cadillac (Gironde), we know that the Jean-Marie Pietrzak gymnasium will be completely transformed. By the end of 2023, the Cdc Convergence Garonne will launch a study to find out whether it will be necessary to rebuild or completely raze this sports hall.

Objective: modernize aging equipment to adapt to changes in sporting practices. A need that is not new.

The place is deteriorating and raises security questions

Already last year, the sports hall posed many security questions. Particularly because some plates fall from the ceiling. The floor is also in poor condition and the lighting must be completely overhauled. Faced with its deterioration and dangerousness, “it is impossible to do nothing,” says Jérôme Gauthier, vice-president in charge of sports life, well aware that a handball club could not operate on such a site.

In this project, the surroundings of the gymnasium are integrated; concretely it is the ping-pong room, managed by the municipality, which would be completely redone.

To accommodate new sporting activities

In addition to handball, badminton, archery and majorettes, the new complex could accommodate martial arts and voluntary gymnastics associations. In order to study the feasibility of this large-scale project, it will be necessary to spend 30,000 euros. Funding shared between the Cdc Convergence Garonne, owner of the gymnasium, and the municipality of Cadillac, which manages the surrounding area. “The community of municipalities is responsible for obtaining eligible subsidies for this project,” underlines President Jocelyn Doré, also mayor of Cadillac.

At what price ?

What envelope is planned for these new spaces? “For the moment, it’s impossible to say,” says Jérôme Gauthier. There are a lot of unknowns, and the costs of the work are extremely fluctuating. Between the decision and the completion of the work, there were two years. » In addition to the associations, including handball and badminton which occupy the premises almost every day, the room also benefits the two Cadillac colleges. Everyone complains about the state of the room.

But what about the activities if there is work?

Except that, if work is undertaken or if the gymnasium is razed, sports and school activities will be stopped. “It will be for a period of approximately six months,” estimates the elected official in charge of sports.

For the moment, we do not have a solution to continue our training elsewhere.

When consulted, the associations and colleges were able to express their needs, although this project is perplexing. “It’s been working on us since we knew that there was work that was going to be organized. There are 180 members at the club, explains the president of UAC Cadillac, Zarida Icheboudene. For the moment, we do not have a solution to continue our training elsewhere. »

Indeed, if it is possible to arrange with the committee not to host home matches, it will be more difficult to train with neighbors.

Find a workout solution

In Paillet and Cérons, the teams already fill many slots every evening. With any luck, the handball association hopes that construction will begin in May, at the end of the season. In fact, this would have less impact on the emblematic club, which arrived within these walls in 1997, as well as the college students. Within two years, when work could begin, a solution will have to be found.
