Pidcock will compete in the Benidorm Cyclocross World Cup

The British cyclist Tom Pidcock will compete in the UCI-Benidorm Costa Blanca Cyclocross World Cup, which will be held on Sunday, January 21, 2024 in the El Moralet and Foietes parks of the Alicante city, according to a statement from the organization.

“The UCI-Benidorm Costa Blanca Cyclocross World Cup, which will be held in the El Moralet and Foietes parks of the tourist capital, will have Tom Pidcock on its starting line, one of the great names not only of cyclocross, but also of world cycling,” they announced.

After revealing that the test will feature the duel of the ‘colossi’ Mathieu Van der Poel and Wout Van Aert, the organization reported that Pidcock, Elite world champion in 2022 as well as Junior in 2017 and Under-23 in 2019), will be at the starting line of the test in Benidorm.

Pidcock wore the rainbow jersey in the first edition of the UCI-Benidorm Costa Blanca Cyclocross World Cup in which he finished fifth. Pidcock, 24 years old, is one of the greatest exponents of the current generation of multidisciplinary cyclists, with extraordinary results in cyclocross, mountain biking or the road. He was European junior cyclocross champion in 2016, in a season in which he also donned the rainbow jersey, before taking the Paris-Roubaix and the CRI World Championship in that same Junior category.

In his two seasons as an under-23, Pidcock won two overall wins in the UCI Cyclocross World Cup, as well as the world title and another European title before making the jump to the professional category with Ineos Grenadiers. In addition, the Briton has been Olympic mountain bike champion in Tokyo and is the current holder of the rainbow jersey in that same discipline. On the route, his victories in the Strade Bianche, the Brabant Arrow and the stage of the 2021 Tour de France ending in the Alpe d’Huez stand out.
