Ligue 1: OL overthrow AS Monaco 3-2 and offer the title to PSG

Paris Saint-Germain did not play this Sunday, but they were still crowned champions of France. He owes it to Olympique Lyonnais’ victory against AS Monaco. At Parc OL, the Rhodanians won after a pleasant match (3-2).

The Lyonnais responded to the Monegasques, after conceding a goal in the first minute of the match. As a surface fox, Wissam Ben Yedder pushed the ball into the empty goal, after having followed a deflection from Folarin Balogun (1st, 0-1).

But OL reacted quickly and took advantage of the speed of their attackers to put AS Monaco in difficulty with supersonic transitions. Wingers Saïd Benrahma and Ernest Nuamah often set the flanks on fire, even if the second sometimes lacked precision in his dribbling.

Stunning Lyon

Finally, it was Lyon captain, Alexandre Lacazette, who put his team back in the match by scoring his 16th goal of the season. The striker took a good cross from Saïd Benrahma into the empty goal. Trapped by Nemanja Matic’s call at the near post, the defense left the Frenchman alone (22nd, 1-1).

After being the decisive crosser, Algerian international Saïd Benrahma this time gave the Lyonnais the advantage. Served by an excellent ball from Clinton Maja, Corentin Tolisso completely missed his recovery from the penalty point. But with a bit of success, the ball came back to Saïd Benrahma, who concluded with composure (26th, 2-1).

OL, transformed in recent weeks, then made a series of collective class movements, often thanks to combinations between the wingers and Maxence Caqueret. But AS Monaco finally rebelled, and Wissam Ben Yedder once again put on the savior costume. The French striker headed a Youssouf Fofana cross with a perfect header on the hour mark (60th, 2-2).

Wissam Ben Yedder even thought he would score a hat-trick, and at the same time deprive Paris of the title, but he was offside before unleashing his sublime left-footed recovery (78th). Finally, it was the young Malick Fofana who gave victory to Lyon, after a lightning counter-attack (84th, 3-2).

“We had a lot of chances,” Monegasque midfielder Maghnes Akliouche regretted after the match, speaking to Prime Video. It could have gone either way, it went theirs. We will have to analyze all of this carefully to succeed in bouncing back. We are disappointed, we could have done better on many things. »

After this success, OL are provisionally seventh in Ligue 1 and can still hope to secure a European place. AS Monaco is still the runner-up to PSG but concedes part of its lead over Brest, 3rd with two points behind Adi Hütter’s team.

What to congratulate, for the Lyonnais Duje Caleta-Car: “It was an incredible match. Monaco are a very good team, there is a reason why they are second. But our team is crazy, we never give up. We want to climb the rankings as much as possible. »
