Florence, 27 November 2023 – Trains stopped, delays of up to 70 minutes and some cancellations. The week starts off on the wrong foot for commuters in the Florence area. Due to the presence of unauthorized people along the tracks, traffic around Santa Maria Novella was blocked for about an hour.
The police intervened on site. After a traffic block that lasted from 7.45 am until around 8.30 am today, November 27, trains began to travel with a precautionary reduction in speed in the affected section. The delays concern high-speed, intercity and regional trains.
Based on what we have learned, the problem was caused by a person who was walking along the tracks for reasons still being ascertained. The man was stopped and traffic it slowly resumed around 9am, but in the stations there is total chaos due to the delays accumulated by the trains. Commuters also complain of poor communication about what happened.
The biggest problems are between Santa Maria Novella and Rifredi. The delay of trains today, November 27th, happens on the day when a strike was initially planned, which was later cancelled.
