Brazilian national soccer player Rodrygo was the victim of racist insults after the Superclasico defeat against Argentina.

“The racists are always on duty. My social networks have been flooded with insults and nonsense of all kinds,” wrote the Real Madrid professional on X and Instagram. Among other things, users posted emojis of bananas or monkeys on his profile.

“If we don’t do what they want, if we don’t behave the way they think we should behave, if we wear something that bothers them, if we don’t lower our heads, if they attack us, if we “Occupy spaces that they think belong to them, then the racists come into action with their criminal behavior,” Rodrygo wrote: “No chance, we won’t stop.”

Support from Neymar and Vinicius Junior

The attacker received support from, among others, his national team colleagues Neymar and Vinicius Junior, who had often been the target of racist attacks at his club Real Madrid in the Spanish league. “Your shine embarrasses them, never stop!” Neymar wrote on Instagram.

The Brazilian federation CBF also condemned the “racist acts” and assured that it will “continue to work tirelessly to eliminate the disease of racism from football.” According to the Globo Esporte website, Rodrygo is now considering legal action. The 22-year-old played through the 1-0 defeat in Rio de Janeiro on Tuesday, which was overshadowed by fan riots. Among other things, he had heated verbal battles with his opponents Lionel Messi and Rodrigo De Paul.
