The Newport Beach, Calif., Police Department said Wednesday that its detectives are investigating an accusation that Josh Giddey of the Oklahoma City Thunder had an inappropriate relationship with an underage girl.
In a post that has since been deleted, an anonymous user said on social media last week that the girl seen with Giddey in videos and photographs was an underage high school student at the time. The social media account has since been deactivated.
Giddey, an Australian, celebrated his 21st birthday in October.
Newport Beach police said in a news release that they are “actively seeking additional information regarding these allegations and pursuing all leads and evidence to obtain the facts of the case.” »
NBA spokesman Mike Bass said Wednesday that the league’s investigation is ongoing.

Giddey has declined to comment on the situation so far, and Thunder coach Mark Daigneault has had no comment.
Giddey is averaging 12 points, 5.8 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game for an Oklahoma City team.
