New Archery Hall in Brienon-sur-Armançon Falls Short of Hosting National Competitions

Seven meters and fifty. While the end of the work is fast approaching, here is the measure that the new archery hall in Brienon-sur-Armançon will be missing in order to reach a new milestone: the hosting of national competitions and the indoor disabled sports. Originally, a misunderstanding between the different actors of the project. Almost completed, this brand new infrastructure will be limited to hosting regional tournaments.

“We weren’t close to 20,000 euros for this project”

A dimension of thirty meters by thirty meters. Around twenty targets. The possibility of carrying out training in large numbers indoors. On the rendering, everyone agrees on one thing. François Degrange, president and coach of the Sentinelle of Brienon-sur-Armançon, sees “incredible infrastructure”. Jean-Claude Carra, the mayor of the town, speaks of “very nice equipment”.

But behind this compliment, the councilor does not hide a certain disappointment at discovering the new room. “We are missing 7.50 meters so that we can host a national indoor competition. It’s a shame, the club deserves it but we will make it work as much as possible.” In the language of archers, we speak of a missing span:

I would have needed 24 targets to organize national tournaments but we will have around twenty. Inside, it will therefore be used for competitions at the regional level, indicates François Degrange. We had mentioned it at the first meeting before the work, but the intermunicipality said that there would be four bays instead of five.

This additional span would also have allowed the Sentinelle to host adapted sports tournaments.

For his part, Yves Delot, president of the community of communes Serein et Armance, denies any refusal. “We visited several archery halls in France with François Degrange. I was never told that we needed one more bay otherwise we would have done it,” explains Yves Delot. “We were not at Around 20,000 euros for this project. This is indicated in the minutes of the various meetings. Seven meters more or less, it made no difference.”

Heading outside now

Inside the room, some material details must be filled. While waiting for official delivery, members still come to shoot at the targets installed a few days ago. “We are waiting for the floor to be cleaned, some defects on the ceiling to be finished and the target to be delivered. It should be all right in December. In any case, we are hosting a first indoor competition on November 18 and 19,” indicates François Degrange.

Despite the incomprehension over the final result, the president of the club does not hide his joy at training in these new premises. “It’s one of the best in the world. We can’t host national competitions but we can organize lots of other things. That will allow us to do a good job. Our vocation is above all to organize tournaments national and international outdoors.”

premium La Sentinelle de Brienon-sur-Armançon will soon discover its new room after a year of work

The 1.8 million euros devoted to this project around the Sentinel thus include exterior developments. “In the spring, we should align the paths of the two fields on the site. We have already covered the unevenness which was enormous,” underlines Yves Delot. Despite delivery on track, the elected official does not hide his frustration with indoor practice. “It’s a stupid story, but it’s over now.”
