Müller wants to “continue playing for a year beyond 2024” – Sport

As expected, Thomas Müller has announced that he wants to continue his career beyond the end of the season. “I definitely want to continue playing for another year beyond 2024. At least that’s my plan,” said the 34-year-old from FC Bayern Munich to Sport Bild. “I’m still having fun being on the pitch – I hope that shows.” Müller’s contract, like that of captain Manuel Neuer, Sven Ulreich, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Bouna Sarr, expires at the end of the season. Apart from seven years as a child at TSV Pähl, Müller only played for the German industry leader. “He is a veteran of the club – there will never be anyone like him again,” said President Herbert Hainer recently. There is no rush on the contract issue. “He knows how much we all value him.” According to Sport Bild information, FC Bayern is planning initial discussions with the club icon in the coming weeks. The fundamental decision by Müller, who is one of the top earners in the team, has been made. He wants to continue his career at the highest level and continue to play in the Champions League.

According to Sport Bild, he shouldn’t rule out a move within the Bundesliga – although that is difficult to imagine. After Jamal Musiala’s loss, Müller was recently given a starting eleven again under Thomas Tuchel against 1. FC Heidenheim. The series title winner has long since come to terms with the fact that the long-standing “Müller is always playing” maxim no longer applies and that he is primarily needed as a joker. Müller was recently celebrated for his 500th scorer point in the furious 8-0 win against SV Darmstadt. “Hopefully I will never lose the drive to goal,” the 125-time national player told the German Press Agency in October. Given his goal and assist record as well as his record-breaking title haul, it is astonishing that the 2014 World Cup winner has never been named Footballer of the Year. If Müller plays at FC Bayern until 2025, there could be the perfect end to a picture-perfect career: there will be another Champions League final in Munich on May 31, 2025.
