Milūns for Baltic semi-professional hockey

Almost half of all games of the regular tournament have been played in the Baltic and Latvian hockey championship. The leaders are those for whom this honor was foreseen – “Zemgale”, “Mogo” and “Kurbads” from Jelgava. Among the outsiders, there is one team that should not be there – the base club of the Lithuanian national team Elektrēni “Airwell Energija”, while in the middle part of the table there are four clubs – “Prizma”, “Panter”, HS “Rīga” and “Kaunas City”. The Kaunas club has played three/four games less than its competitors, and something in the table may change. It will be the most objective only when all nine teams have played all regular championship games.

Now, some clubs – like HS “Rīga” against “Punks” and “Panter” have already completed the mutual accounts of the season, but the young people from Riga have not even played the first round match with the Kaunas team. A small anachronism, but even the strongest hockey league, the NHL, does not have a smooth calendar.

The first half of the championship is commented by the head coach of Prizma, Ēriks Miļuns, who has almost 25 years of experience in the Latvian Super League. Under his leadership, “Prizma” became Latvian champions in 2014. In several world championships, Miļuns was also the head coach of the Latvian U-18 and U-20 national teams.

This year, at least for now, shows a trend where the average level of the teams has evened out. There are a lot of unpredictable games where any team can win. Let’s use our example: “Prism” has won “Zemgali” and “Kurbad”, but lost to Estonians and Kaunas. It is similar to almost all teams, the two weakest at the moment – Elektrēni and Vilņi – maybe they are not weak at all, but it coincided. Elektren because they got on the ice later and therefore run slower, Vilnius has its own problems, but when playing against them, it’s not like they don’t get the puck at all and the game will end with a ten-puck lead. Even the game of “Mogo” against Vilnius – until the third period, “Mogo” was on the losing end with 1:2. The Lithuanians would score one more goal and maybe the game would go in a completely different direction. One goalie is unlucky, or the other goalie has a catch day, and the game can go the other way. Any team can beat anyone. The average level has definitely leveled off and even the top teams are not having it easy. As if it would be normal for the leading teams to drive over all the others, but neither according to the results nor the content of the game, this is not the case.

If we analyze the teams, they are equal in composition…
