Mexico admits labor complaint against Caterpillar subsidiary in Tamaulipas – El Sol de México

Mexico admitted the review request submitted by the United States under the Quick Response Labor Mechanism of the T-MEC on recent October 26, regarding an alleged denial of rights to freedom of association and collective bargaining in the company Tecnología Modificación, a subsidiary of Caterpillar, which is located in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas.

The Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare (STPS) informs that, as of this admission, it has a period of 37 days for an internal review to determine the existence or not of a denial of labor rights to the workers of said company.

In a brief statement, the commitment of the Mexican government to effectively apply labor legislation as well as the relevant provisions established by the Trade Agreement between Mexico, the United States and Canada is reiterated.

Through the Rapid Response Labor Mechanism of Annex 31-A of the T-MEC and thereby guarantee compliance and protection of the collective rights of the country’s workers. It is the sixteenth labor complaint filed.

The Modified Technology company remanufactures auto parts. This is gears, alternators, filters and hydraulic pumps. It employs 480 people.

The complaint was filed with the United States government by the Independent Union of Industrial and Service Workers Movement 20/32 (SNITIS) against the Caterpillar subsidiary, confirmed to El Sol de México, the legal representative of the union body, the lawyer Susana Prieto Terrazas.
