Marnavalais Judokas Competing in French 1st Division Championships

During the French 1st Division championships, Saturday November 18 and Sunday November 19, in Caen, Marnaval’s best chances concern Mélanie Legoux-Clément, for her comeback, and Nawaliatou Babio, in the running on Saturday.

Saturday November 18 and Sunday November 19, in Caen, the French 1st Division championships are held. Five Marnavalais are qualified: Mélanie Legoux-Clément (-48 kg), Nawaliatou Babio (-52 kg), Paul Variot-Jeanmaire (-73 kg), Lamia Ghannou (-63 kg) and Margaux Silvestri (-63 kg). With more or less high objectives.

The two best chances from Haut-Marne concern Mélanie Legoux-Clément and Nawaliatou Babio. The first named, mother of little Enzo, has been recovering since June 29. The 31-year-old judokate, who has two French championship titles, one silver medal and four bronze medals, is one of the outsiders, in a category where the two locomotives, Shirine Boukli, recent European champion, and Blandine Pont , will not be engaged. “Mélanie was in recovery in Troyes, to get her bearings, after her pregnancy. The sensations were good and I see her progressing. We decided that she would do “France” because she was automatically qualified there. After a year off, she is in pretty good shape physically. For their part, Boukli and Pont will be at the Japanese Grand Slam,” explains Clément Legoux. “There isn’t really a goal. The idea is for Mélanie to be ready for the Paris tournament in February. She gives herself time to come back. I think a podium is possible. The motivation is there and she doesn’t put any particular pressure on herself. She is a month and a half into recovery, including three weeks of INSEP. Movements and placements are more difficult when you have stopped than the technique. For me, it is at 70-80% of its means. » Response on Saturday, with several young people (like Espadinha) who will want to show themselves, for a return to the French championships for at least four years. Mélanie will be seeded No. 1.

For her part, Nawaliatou Babio, who left frustrated last year with a disqualification for a dangerous movement as soon as she entered the fray, is one of the outsiders in -52 kg. “She has just returned to gendarmerie school in Tulle, and she has had much less judo training in recent weeks. Nawaliatou is capable, with her achievements, of winning a new medal, having already pocketed two bronze medals in this competition. There is no Buchard and Astride Gneto, in the race for the Olympic Games,” continues Clément Legoux.

More complicated on Sunday

For Paul Variot-Jeanmaire, this will be a big first on Saturday. “Paul is coming out of juniors and he had a very good day at the Grand Est championships, with a success to boot. He trains in Strasbourg. For his first at this level, he can spend one or two rounds. He is becoming more and more mature. He may be impressed to be there, with the champions. If he ignores that, he can have good fights. »

Sunday November 19, Lamia Ghannou, who also trains in Strasbourg, at Pôle France, and who qualified in -57 kg, will fight in the higher category. “She surprised people during the qualifications, even if she is vice-champion of France junior. Not me. She will have difficulty channeling herself for her first at this level. His physical side will play less in -63 kg. »

Finally, Margaux Silvestri (-63 kg), like Ghannou, who is preparing in Marseille, finished second in the Grand Est championships, then third in the French 2nd division championships. “With experience, she can do tricks. She trains less than in the national collective, in Paris, but I see her less stressed. She was in rather good shape during several preparation tournaments,” concludes Clément Legoux.

As a reminder, Bragard Axel Clerget, after his participation in the European Championship (defeat in the second round), will compete in the Tokyo Grand Slam, in -90 kg, at the beginning of December. He will not be in Caen.
