Fabian Wegmann about dangers on the route

Mr. Wegmann, what does an exciting cycling race look like for you?

It should be varied. Basically, races are very similar. There are attacks after the start, a breakaway group forms, and then, depending on their tactics, teams think about how and when they want to catch up with the group. It could be that those at the back time it so that those at the front are only caught shortly before the end and a sprint occurs. It’s nice when there’s movement in the race, like we had last year at Eschborn-Frankfurt: a group is going, you think it’s going to be quieter, but then in the Taunus it’s just really getting started. The escapees are caught again, there are new attacks, and it remains exciting until the finish because it is not clear whether the group will be caught or not.
