Manuel Neuer’s Business Partner Reveals Plans for Forester’s House: E-Bikes, Beehives, and a Farm Garden

E-bikes, beehives and a farm garden: the business partner of soccer world champion Manuel Neuer reveals to t-online what the forester’s house will look like.

The Valepp forester’s lodge is embedded in the green slopes of the Mangfall Mountains around 70 kilometers south of Munich. The massive roof gable and the rustic wooden shacks all around are reminiscent of typical inns in the Alps.

Manuel Neuer from FC Bayern wants to create regional mountain gastronomy here with his Tegernsee business partner Johannes Rabl. “Manuel Neuer and I want to develop a climate-neutral gastronomy concept for everyone in Valepp,” explains Rabl to t-online.

However, the application process was accompanied by a lot of criticism – for example from the Association for the Protection of the Mountains. Skeptics reportedly fear that the forester’s lodge could lose its traditional appearance. Rabl explains to t-online what soccer world champion Neuer’s mountain inn should look like.

Location in the Mangfall Mountains: 15 kilometers south of the Schliersee

The Forsthaus Valepp is located a few kilometers from the Tyrolean border in the middle of the Upper Bavarian Mangfall Mountains, almost 15 kilometers south of Schliersee and 15 kilometers southwest of Rottach-Egern on Lake Tegernsee. Wittelsbacher Max II originally had the forester’s house built in 1841 for his royal Bavarian forestry company. For decades, the Valepp valley – the name of the mountain stream of the same name – had been home to a mountain restaurant. However, the forester’s lodge was ultimately empty.

The forester’s lodge can be reached via a country road from Rottach-Egern and a narrow forest road from Spitzingsee. However, traveling by car is not recommended out of consideration for the wildlife and mountains and because there are almost no parking spaces on site.

Forsthaus Valepp: Renovated in traditional Bavarian style

The Valepp forester’s lodge is dilapidated and has been largely gutted inside by the owner, the Bavarian State Forestry. “As part of a building permit from 2015, we want to repair the roof before the onset of winter in order to stop the deterioration of the monument and save the building structure,” says Rabl. The hotelier from Tegernsee and Manuel Neuer received a leasehold for the site from the Free State of Bavaria. This obliges them to secure the traditional existence.

After the renovation work, which, according to Rabl, will not be completed before spring 2025, the building will be reminiscent of a traditional Bavarian mountain inn. The original appearance should be the benchmark during restoration. “We want to preserve the rooms in the forester’s lodge as a listed building. They are small and winding,” he says. The deep ceilings are striking.

The energy supply should be sustainable and self-sufficient at the same time: “We have planned a combination of a photovoltaic system with a renewable heating source, most likely with wood chips.” Wood waste such as branches from the surrounding forests are used for heating.

“No champagne parties”, just an ordinary beer garden

The beer garden will probably be bigger in the future than before. And it is no longer directly in front of the entrance to the forester’s lodge, but, if you look from the front, to the left of it. “At the request of the State Office for Monument Preservation, we want to demolish the old toilet building as soon as possible. We have to and want to build a new farm building there,” explains Rabl. And: The former garage, which is in danger of collapsing, is giving way to a new warehouse in which a multifunctional room “for private companies” (Rabl) will be integrated.

“We want to locate the kitchen in this new outbuilding,” Neuer’s business partner continues: “A self-service counter for the beer garden would be integrated.” There shouldn’t be any champagne parties there. After a mountain tour, future guests should be able to pick up typical regional food and drinks at the bar, just like in any other beer garden.

E-bikes, beehives and a cottage garden are planned

The kitchen was previously located at the back of the forester’s lodge. “We want to build a new toilet facility there and a lounge for overnight guests. Part of this area will be a small sauna measuring ten square meters, as is already standard in many mountain huts,” says Rabl.

This plan in particular had raised concerns among critics of the project. Rabl confirms that it is “not a wellness area,” as rumored. “If I have a baptism or a family celebration, I can place these guests in the multifunctional room, and the forester’s house remains open to day guests at the same time,” he explains the intention.

Forsthaus Valepp by Manuel Neuer: beehives and e-bikes

Meanwhile, the historic outdoor stone staircase in front of the forester’s lodge is to be restored and half of the parking spaces are to be dismantled. This means there is hardly any space for cars on the site. There will be a minibus shuttle service for guests from Spitzingsee. Otherwise, traffic there is only permitted to residents. Instead of a parking lot, Neuer and Rabl want to set up “a large solar-powered system for charging e-bikes.” Behind the mountain inn, beehives and a farm garden for home-made food will round off the unique ensemble.
