The bronze medalists of the 2023 Latvian Championship, Toms Liepa/Ernests Puškundzis, today defeated (21:13, 21:9) Hong Kong’s Hochi Chiu/Cheukhei Lee in the first round, but defeated (21:18, 19:21, 15:6) the Americans in the decisive round Aiden Keeter/Carson Barnes.
The decisive game. At the beginning of the match, our team won the advantage (3:0, 7:3), in the continuation, the Americans achieved 16:16 and 18:18, but the first set ended with Liepa’s two blocks. In the second set, the Latvian duo achieved 3:0 and 15:11, the opponents answered with a series of five points, Liepa/Puskundzis secured three points in a row (18:16), but in the end the Americans proved to be superior. In the third set, the favorites started the fight powerfully (5-0, 8-1) and eventually won convincingly.

Amanda Regute/Marta Wilder first defeated the 15-year-old Turks Ceylina Sayar/Su Shimdim (21:14, 21:15), but lost in the decisive qualifying round (14:21, 14:21) to last year’s U18 European champions Anna Pavelkova/Katerzhina Pavelkova from Czech Republic.
U20 European Championship bronze medalists Kristians Fokerot/Oliver Bulgacs and 2022 U20 European vice-champions Liva Eber/Daniela Konstantinova are already in the main tournament, which starts tomorrow.
