They say that there is no place like home and that is what Ibizans expect at the Spanish Under-17 Badminton Championships being held this weekend in Sa Blanca Dona. 12 volantistas pitiusos will take part in the event, of which several have a good chance of getting on the podium.
In the men’s individual table, the main local option is Yaidel Gil. The former U-15 European bronze medalist passed the second round yesterday after being exempt from the first. Marc Aguilera and Álex Tur were not as lucky, as they fell in their first matches.

In the women’s team, sisters Sofía and María García, despite being under-15, confirmed yesterday their high level, surpassing the first two rounds. Although it is very complicated, they would not see each other until a hypothetical final.
In mixed doubles, there are several podium options. The only one to participate yesterday was Sofía García, partnering with Gonzalo Isabal from Huesca. Today she will continue her journey in a painting that also includes Yaidel Gil and Victoria Gutiérrez, Yulien Gil and Daniela Corchón (Soria) and Ainhoa Cabrera and Alejandro Gallego (Huesca).

In the men’s doubles, couples with Ibizan representation begin to compete today. The draw has meant that Yulien Gil and Ismael Oballe, who already know what it is to be champions of Spain, face Marc Aguilera and Críspulo Ribas in the second round. An Ibizan duel that guarantees that one of these couples reaches the quarterfinals, where they could face off with Yaidel Gil who is paired with Alejandro Gallego from Huesca.
