Leverkusen in the DFB Cup round of 16, Freiburg out

Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen reached the round of 16 in the German Cup with a 5-2 away win against third division club Sandhausen. However, the Werkself only secured their clear victory with three late goals.

Freiburg, on the other hand, failed at home against second division club Paderborn 1:3. Borussia Dortmund narrowly beat Hoffenheim 1-0 in front of their own crowd, with Marco Reus scoring the winning goal.

In the defeat against Paderborn, the Freiburg offensive with Junior Adamu (substituted at the break) and Michael Gregoritsch was pale. Defender Philipp Lienhart was substituted on at halftime when the score was 0-2. In Dortmund, Marcel Sabitzer came on for Reus in the final phase.

Leverkusen only secured promotion against Sandhausen in the final phase with goals from Adam Hlozek (85th) and Amine Adli (88th, 92nd).
