The last international matches of the year are coming up just a few months before the 2024 European Championship in our own country. Julian Nagelsmann causes two surprises.
Update from Friday, November 10th, 3:36 p.m.: Just a few hours after his nomination for the international match of the year, Julian Nagelsmann had to reschedule his personnel again. Instead of Robin Gosens from Union Berlin, David Raum from RB Leipzig will be part of the national soccer team’s squad for the games on November 18th against Turkey in Berlin and three days later in Vienna against Austria. The DFB confirmed this on Friday afternoon.
RB coach Marco Rose had previously reported on Raum’s subsequent nomination. The reason for the short-term change: Gosens is expecting the birth of his second child in the coming days and therefore wants to stay with his wife.

Update from Friday, November 10th, 10:17 a.m.: National coach Julian Nagelsmann is bringing two more unexpected debutants into the DFB team for the last international matches of the year. The 36-year-old nominated 29-year-old attacker Marvin Ducksch from Werder Bremen and 32-year-old goalkeeper Janis Blaswich from RB Leipzig for the first time for his home debut against Turkey on November 18th in Berlin and the duel against Austria in Vienna three days later his squad of 27 players.
The recently injured Serge Gnabry from FC Bayern Munich and Leipzig’s Benjamin Henrichs as well as Dortmund’s Felix Nmecha also belong to the DFB circle again. Nagelsmann has to do without young Bayern star Jamal Musiala because of his muscle injury.
Compared to the national coach’s debut in October against the USA (3:1) and Mexico (2:2), this time Bernd Leno, David Raum and Kevin Behrens are no longer in the squad. RB attacker Timo Werner, Nico Schlotterbeck and his ailing BVB colleague Emre Can were again not taken into account. In contrast to Kevin Behrens, the October newcomers Chris Führich and Robert Andrich are allowed to audition again among the European Championship candidates.

Julian Nagelsmann once again nominates debutants for the DFB team
Nagelsmann will name the DFB team for the games on November 18th in Berlin against Turkey and on November 21st in Vienna against the Austrian national team, which will also be the last international matches of 2023. In his first nomination, he caused a surprise three times with Chris Führich, Kevin Behrens and Robert Andrich, and Führich and Behrens then made their DFB debut straight away.
In addition, Mats Hummels from Borussia Dortmund returned to the DFB team. He no longer played a role during Hansi Flick’s time in office.

Nagelsmann nominates DFB team: What will happen to Manuel Neuer?
However, it is less the possible debutants that are currently being discussed around the DFB team, but rather the question: What will become of Manue Neuer? FC Bayern’s number one returned to the goal of the German record champions a few weeks ago – 320 days after his last appearance. In December 2022, he suffered a complicated fracture of his lower leg on a private ski trip and had to fight his way back to the field for almost a year.
In Neuer’s absence, Barcelona keeper Marc-André ter Stegen did well in the DFB team’s goal and has already registered claims for the 2024 European Championship in his own country.

Neuer was not part of the DFB team in November
Neuer has already confirmed that Nagelsmann will not nominate him for the two international matches in November. He hasn’t had enough time to prove himself so far, but in the coming weeks and months he apparently wants to make it as difficult as possible for the new national coach to get past him. Neuer has already lost his armband. Nagelsmann confirmed that Ilkay Gündogan should also lead the DFB team as captain at the 2024 European Championship.
In addition to the Neuer personnel, Nico Schlotterbeck should also be exciting. He has only played a minor role in the DFB team, while he is a regular at Borussia Dortmund – where he made one or two mistakes.
