Japanese film ‘Evil Does Not Exist’ wins Best Film at Asian Film Festival Barcelona 2023

Barcelona, ​​Nov 5 (EFE).- “Evil does not exist”, by Japanese director Ryusuke Hamaguchi, has been chosen best film in the official section of the Asian Film Festival of Barcelona 2023, which closed today at the Cinemes Girona in Barcelona .

A hundred films from nearly 25 countries in the Asia-Pacific region have been submitted to the Festival, which this year celebrates its eleventh edition and which has been held since last October 25 in the theaters of the Cinemes Girona, Phenomena, CaixaForum, Zumzeig, Manifesta 15, Betevé and FILMIN.

The jury of the official section has awarded the best film award to “Evil does not exist” for its ability to organically grow and mutate a story about the relationships between human beings and nature itself, according to a statement from the festival organization. .

For his part, the Iranian director Farhad Delaram won the award for best direction for “Achilles”, while the best script went to the film “Declaration” by the Hindu Mahesh Narayanan.

In the Panorama category, “Only the river flows”, by Chinese director Wai Shujun, was named best film; at Discoveries, the prize went to Opponen, by the Iranian director Milad Alami; in the NETPAC category the winner was “The Baseball Player”, by Filipino director Carlo Obispo; and in the Special category, the best film was “Peafowl”, by Korean Byun Sung-bin.
