Jannik Sinner and Zlatan Ibrahimovic on Tuesday evening in Milan

Perhaps it was even the loudest ovation of the entire Tuesday evening that Jannik Sinner received from the fans in the legendary San Siro in Milan before the game between AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund kicked off. The Davis Cup champion came to the stadium as a guest of honor on matchday five and also met Zlatan Ibrahimovic there. The game didn’t end to Sinner’s satisfaction: the local AC missed a penalty right at the start through Olivier Giroud and ultimately lost 1:3.

Sinner and the Italian team won the Davis Cup title in the final against Australia in Málaga on Sunday, winning his singles against Alex de Minaur convincingly 6:3 and 6:0. The day before, Sinner managed to fend off three match points against Novak Djokovic. If he had lost this game, Italy would have failed in the semi-finals.

Sinner is currently number four in the world

The fall of 2023 was generally a success story for Jannik Sinner: in Beijing and Vienna he beat his former feared opponent Daniil Medvedev in the finals. At the ATP Finals in Turin he managed to win for the first time in the group phase against Novak Djokovic. However, the Serb then took revenge with a clean success in the final.

Thanks to the successes of the past season (Sinner won his first 1000cc title in Toronto), the now 22-year-old wintered as number four in the world. And will probably go into the Australian Open at the beginning of 2024 as one of the favorites.
