Jamu Indonesia, Philippines Not Calling Persija Jakarta & Arema FC Players

Six players playing in League 1 were called up for two qualifying matches for the 2026 World Cup.

Persija Jakarta midfielder Oliver Bias and Arema FC goalkeeper Julian Schwarzer were not called up to play for the Philippines in the two Asian zone 2026 World Cup qualifying Group F matches against Vietnam and Indonesia this month.

Philippines coach Michael Weiss has called up 26 players for the match. Of the 11 players in League 1 for the 2023/24 season, only six names received a call-up.

The six players are Persib Bandung defender Daisuke Sato, Christian Rontini (Persita Tangerang), Simen Lyngbo (Persik Kediri), Kenshiro Daniels (RANS Nusantara), and the Barito Putera duo Mike Ott and Carli de Murga.

Apart from Bias and Schwarzer, Filipino players in League 1 who were not called up to the Philippines squad are Kike Linares who is a mainstay in PSM Makassar’s defense, PSS Sleman goalkeeper Anthony Pinthus, and Persis Solo doorstop Diego Bardanca.

Weiss said that the players who were called up for this match made him optimistic that he could achieve positive results against Vietnam and Indonesia. The Philippines first welcomed Vietnam’s arrival on November 16, and five days later welcomed Indonesia’s arrival.

“This is a good mix of experienced players from a long time ago, and young, well-developed talents that Filipino clubs have brought to the AFC competition recently,” Weiss was quoted as saying on the Philippine Football Federation website.

“This gives us reason to be optimistic heading into the first two World Cup qualifying matches against Vietnam and Indonesia.”

Weiss also hopes that the Filipino public will provide support to The Azkals by filling the Rizal memorial Stadium, considering that the two opponents they will face are rivals in the Southeast Asian region.

“A very important factor is the enthusiasm and support of the 1st player. “We hope that supporters will come in large numbers to the stadium and become part of history,” said Weiss.
