Jack Draper’s Positive Outlook on Tennis Career and Goals for the Future

It has not been an easy schedule for Jack Draper, but the tennis player from the United Kingdom is positive with the results obtained and his evolution as a player, although he is aware that he aspires to much more. “I know I have to work to be more regular”.

It is not his season with the most victories, nor does it end with his best ranking, he was not even able to avoid injuries. Nevertheless, Jack Draper He has ended up satisfied with his individual exercise in 2023. More by sensations than by numbers, the Briton takes stock in an interview with Tennis Majors about his current state of mind, which improved a lot after signing his first professional final a few days ago in Sofia. These are the conclusions of a man who will still have a lot to say next season.

– Final in Sofia

“Honestly, I think Mannarino summed it up really well when he said it was a game that could have gone either way. It was a very close match, I played well in both the first and second sets, but then maybe I lost a little concentration in the third. However, I was happy with the way I played, but I recognize that he was the better player at the end of the day.”

– A long-awaited week

“It has been a very positive experience, I can say that I did not have more nerves than usual, or anything like that. I didn’t feel that it was a different game from the others, so from the first moment I wanted to approach it like any other. Before the final, I was concentrating mainly on my own tennis, trying to give myself the best possible chance to win that match. So I wasn’t thinking too much about it being my first final or that I could win my first title.”

– Learning after the tournament

“I’ve learned a little more about what it takes to be consistently successful in tournaments week to week, with all those quick changes. I had flown from Bergamo just the day before, so I had very little time to adapt between those two tournaments, but that’s what you have when you’ve been having a good week and you have to continue playing the next. This is the life of a tennis player, it is reality. I hope to continue taking some lessons like these in order to achieve the goal of being more consistent in those later stages of the tournaments.”

– Relative popularity

“I feel like I’m well known in the tennis community, but maybe a little less so in the UK, although a lot of people will know my name. Of course, not many recognize me on the street. Because of the big names and big achievements we’ve had recently with Andy Murray or Emma Raducanu’s victory at the US Open, maybe I was a little more off the radar than otherwise. Obviously, I missed a lot this summer without Wimbledon, many people in our country only follow tennis on the grass tour.”

– Happy with his season

“For me it has been an incredible year. I know that many people may criticize me and say that physically I am not there yet, or criticize the number of injuries I have had, but I continue working every day, not only in tennis, to cover all these deficiencies. When I injured my shoulder, for example, it was a strange injury that I suffered while serving in a match, so I had no control over that injury either. After being away for a while, I was worried about my ranking and having to drop out of more Challenger tournaments, but then that fourth round at the US Open helped me win in Bergamo and make the final in Sofia.”

– The mind in 2024

“I want to take it week by week, but in the ranking I have the goal of being top20 at the end of the year, that is my goal. Apart from this, it’s just about working hard, staying fit and reaching more finals.”
