Italy Shines at the European Judo Championships with Two Medals

L’Italy closes the European Judo Championships with two medals. On the last day of racing in Montpellier, France, Alice Bellandi played an excellent tournament in the -78 kg category: the girl from Brescia, born in 1998, eliminated the Dutch Lieke Derks, the Portuguese Patricia Sampaio and the German Anna-Maria Wagner, a rival she had never managed to beat before. In the final, however, she had to give in to the triumph of another German athlete, Alina Boehm.

Silver therefore for Bellandiwhich thanks to the points gained still remains at command of the world rankings and the Olympic ranking towards the Paris 2024 Games.

Wheeling Asya Tavano instead, he climbs onto the +78 kg podium. The twenty-one year old from Sclaunicco di Lestizza (province of Udine) won over the Bosnian Larisa Ceric, the Serbian Milica Zabic and the Turkish Kayra Ozdemir. In the semi-final the defeat against the Israeli Raz Hershko, then the success in the “final” against the Dutch Karen Stevenson, which earned the Italian the bronze medal. Precious points also for Tavano with a view to qualifying for next year’s Olympics.
