“It won’t be tourism”: how Brest is preparing its mini-truce

We won’t see them again before November 26 in Montpellier. Deprived of the Strasbourg reception initially planned for this weekend, the Brestois must skip their turn due to storm Ciaran which caused damage to their Francis-le Blé stadium and, with the international break, they therefore have three weeks break after their meeting in Monaco (0-2, last Sunday). Enough to shake up their schedule a little.

“There, it’s a little more fun, we work on situations not experienced before”

Yvan Bourgis, physical trainer at Stade Brestois 29

This week, the training schedule was similar to previous ones, with internal opposition on Sunday, but the content of the sessions was somewhat revised. “Often, our weeks are guided by the opponent we are going to meet,” says Yvan Bourgis, Brestois physical trainer. There, it’s a little more fun, we work on situations not experienced before. There are fewer tactical aspects. Thursday was our D-3. Usually, we have an opposition on a large field. We were really wet this week, so we played on smaller pitches. We also chose to focus our content on efficiency in front of goal because we create a lot of chances and we esteem ourselves a little in deficit in the ratio of number of shots and number of goals scored. We tried to emphasize the finishing work. »

While the weather is still unpredictable, the Pirates also carried out indoor exercises. Padel, basketball and tennis (with beach rackets)… There was enough to keep the competitive spirit while having fun. “It fits with our idea of having a little lightness,” Bourgis continues. Basketball was tough, there were a few triggers. Everyone seemed to have a blast. »

4 days of total blackout at the end of next week

Brest will continue next week with sessions until Thursday. Before cutting completely 4 days. “This had been dealt well in advance,” adds Bourgis. The guys work well, we are happy with the daily investment, there were small challenges internally. We have established a relationship of trust between the coach and the players, it’s give and take. If they want to benefit from a new period of four days in the future, there will also have to be a full investment and we will have to find them fresh (smile). They’ll have to move a little, it won’t be tourism. But they know the issues, nothing is forbidden to them. We’re not going to smack them. We’re just going to make sure they have to do a little work to stay fit. We see it as a period of mental and physical regeneration to arrive fresh in our heads before approaching the period before Christmas which will be a little busy and where we will need all the strength. »

Because the rest promises to be dense. In the space of 24 days, Brest will face Montpellier, Clermont, Strasbourg, Metz, Nantes and Lorient. 6 important matches to continue to move calmly towards maintenance. And the opportunity to see new faces? “When there is a classic period with one match per week and the team is performing well, it is difficult to make changes. In condensed periods, there can be a rotation strategy, it is perhaps the opportunity to give the chance to boys who have not had it from the start, believes Bourgis. Afterwards, these are management choices that we will discuss little by little. » A priori, the people of Brest will have time to think about it.
