Fernando Alonso says people who spread baseless rumors about his move to Red Bull or the end of his career will face consequences.
In recent days, there have been speculations on social networks that Fernando Alonso is going to leave Aston Martin after the season. According to these reports, the Spaniard should replace the struggling Sergio Pérez in the cockpit of Red Bull, or end his career in Formula 1 altogether.
Everything was amplified by a tweet published on the X social network by the respected Spanish journalist Albert Fabrega. He indicated on his profile that there is talk of something big in the paddock – but without specifying who the alleged matter should concern.
Alonso himself also commented on the speculation before Sunday’s São Paulo GP, making it clear that he is not entirely to his liking.
“It’s just rumours, normal paddock rumours, and from people who want to make fun of it and get some fans. But I don’t play that game,” said Alonso, quoted by Autosport.
“I’m not enjoying it. I recognize that you are all journalists, professionals who have been in F1 for a long time. You earn respect, and that’s how it should be. All the gossip comes from people who are not in this room and is just there to make fun. I don’t think it’s funny,” the Spanish racer told reporters in São Paulo.
Alonso also stated that he is particularly concerned about the reports linking him with the seat at Red Bull.
“I will make sure that the consequences are drawn from it,” Alonso added, not wanting to elaborate on what exactly he meant by that.
