Israel’s National Security Council Urges Citizens to Leave Turkey: Impact on Upcoming “Maccabi vs Fenerbahce” Euroleague Match

On October 17, Israel’s National Security Council issued a statement calling on all Israeli citizens to leave Turkey for security reasons and issued a top-level travel warning against traveling to Turkey.

The management of the Tel Aviv club has taken into account the recommendations of the National Security Council of Israel and will ask the “Fenerbahce” team to move the match from Istanbul to Belgrade, where “Maccabi” will play its next home matches. “Fenerbahce” would not lose the home game in Istanbul, it would simply be played in the second round in Turkey.

With three wins in five matches, Maccabi, coached by Oded Kataš, takes seventh place in the ULEB Euroleague. On the other hand, “Fenerbahce” coached by Dimitra Itudas is in the fourth position with five successes in six matches, lagging behind the two Spanish giants “Real” and “Barcelona” from Madrid, as well as “Virtus” from Bologna coached by Lukas Banki.
