The Ibizan youth team continues to reap success. On this occasion, the Pitiusan midfielders stood on four of the podiums of the Iberdrola Spanish Championship under-15 and under-17, which reached its final this Sunday in the sa Blanca Dona pavilion.
Local player Álex Tur won the silver medal in the men’s doubles together with Mario Rodríguez. The Spanish couple lost the final against the French Elie Burgot and Timeo Ternon by a double 21-18.
In the under-17 category, two more medals fell for the islanders. Ibizan Sofía García and her partner Gonzalo Isabal could not beat Iziar Barcala and Raúl Bergua in the battle for the title (21-19 and 21-14).
Sofía García and María García won bronze in the under-17 women’s doubles. The Pitiusas gave up defeat in the semifinals against the French Flora Mias and Maeve Delannoy Seillier by a tight 2-1 (21-11, 19-21 and 21-19). Finally, María García, in the under-15 mixed doubles, won silver with Raúl Hernández after losing the final against Pablo Sanz and Polina Prykhodko (21-18, 15-21 and 21-16).
The champions of the event in the under-15 category were the following: César Rodríguez and Paulina Carthery, in men’s and women’s singles, respectively; Raúl Hernández and Félix Sanz, in the men’s doubles; Rafaela Silva and Maribel Sousa, in the women’s doubles, and Pablo Sanz and Polina Prykhodko, in mixed doubles.
In sub-17, the gold was won by Mario Rodríguez and Iziar Barcala, in the men’s and women’s singles, respectively; Elie Burgot and Timeo Ternon, in men’s doubles; Estel Bastide and Jade Dubois, in women’s doubles, and Iziar Barcala and Raúl Bergua, in mixed doubles.
